From its beginnings in the early 1970s, Bowen Estate has built an enviable reputation for producing wines of exceptional quality, deservedly recognised as classic coonawarra.
With a firm belief that quality begins in the vineyard, owner and viticulturalist Doug Bowen together with winemaker daughter Emma, proudly advocate traditional viticultural and winemaking skills that result in wines reflecting the true characteristics of Coonawarra – strong varietal aromas, big flavours and soft balanced tannins. Introduced in 1989, the Bowen’s arch cane trellis system is integral to their style of wine, resulting in an evenness of budburst, bunch exposure and ripeness.
“We are one of the few vineyards in Australia to employ an arch cane trellis system, that together with hand-pruning, results in an overall balanced vine,” says Doug. “We believe this is the key to producing beautiful classic wines that can be enjoyed now or set aside for future years.”
In 2024, Bowen Estate will celebrate 50 years since its first vintage.
