Established by the Lindner family in 1944, St Hallett maintains the perfect blend of old and new, and an incredible collection of vintages collated over half a century. Specialising in premium Barossa shiraz, the estate is steeped in history, yet boasts one of the most contemporary winemaking systems available.
St Hallett understands the importance of capturing the heart of the Barossa’s old vines, and it is this recognition and appreciation that reveals the rich texture, depth and diversity of the region’s grapes.
Featuring seven hectares under vine, St Hallett produces twenty-four wines per year, including popular favourites shiraz, grenache and riesling. Test your palate with stunning red varietals like mataro and touriga nacional. Or, for those cold, wintery afternoons, the estate’s twenty-five-year-old tawny fortified wine will warm you from the inside out.
With a picturesque lawn to picnic on, you can while away the hours surrounded by the estate’s gorgeous vineyards as you sample delicious chocolate, wine flights and local produce platters. Wander the grounds and discover the historic Old Block Cellar; the original cold store, where the Lindners, who were Barossa butchers, would keep their meat cool.
Over the years, St Hallett has won many awards and medals, including a Blue Gold Medal for its 2015 Blackwell Shiraz at the Sydney International Wine Festival and Wine of the Year for its Lore of The Land Shiraz at Vintage Cellars. These prestigious accolades further cement its standing as a Barossa staple.
Be sure to take advantage of St Hallett’s exclusive cellar door specials, as well as the local fare available for purchase.
⇐ 2016 Blackwell Shiraz
Recently awarded ninety-seven points by James Halliday, the 2016 Blackwell Shiraz shows hints of chocolate, blackberry and coffee bean mixed with anise and fruit cake. The tannins found within this wine are full and mouth-coating, providing a rich texture and a persistent, full-bodied nature. With layers of rich, dark fruit, black forest cake and cocoa, this shiraz is opulent and balanced, with cellaring potential of ten to fifteen years.
⇐ 2015 Old Block Shiraz
Produced by infusing a blend of Eden Valley and Barossa Valley vines, aged for 40–150 years, this 2015 Old Block Shiraz is beautifully balanced and elegant. It opens with a fine fruit burst followed by a dense dark fruit core and a long even finish. The tannins are fine and fold into layer after layer of flavour. It is an elegant wine with great complexity, which will further unfold over time. If cellared carefully, this wine will age gracefully for up to thirty years from vintage.
⇐St Hallet Eden Valley Riesling
The elevation of the Eden Valley region results in cool nights, even at the peak of summer. This is the perfect climate for riesling, and St Hallett sources its fruit from a small selection of growers scattered throughout the Eden Valley.
⇐ St Hallet Rosé
Small parcels of grenache and mataro from select Barossa Valley vineyards are cold-harvested to maintain succulent fruit flavours of strawberries, rose petals and white peach in this rosé. The Barossa Valley is the ideal home for producing the fresh red-fruit characters that make grenache and mataro standout varietals, ideal for delicious rosé. Vibrant acidity and a crisp, dry finish follow to complete a balanced and refreshing rosé.
