Shaw Family Vintners
Shaw Family Vintners
The Shaw family has honed its craft since 1976, when Richard and Marie Shaw planted five-acres of vines in McLaren Vale. Since that time, these plantings have expanded to 155-acres in McLaren Vale and more than 1000-acres in Currency Creek. The Shaws’ sons – Philip, Nathan and Mark – now manage the business, from viticulture to winemaking, as well as sales.
Shaw Family Vintners’ winery was established at Currency Creek in 2011, featuring extensive winemaking facilities and a cellar door for visitors to enjoy. Here you can try some of the Shaws’ fantastic wines with tastings available Monday through to Friday. On a nice day, take your glass
outside where you can soak up the sunshine and gorgeous views.
Having established vineyards in two distinctively different regions, the winemaking team at Shaw Family Vintners has the ability to craft wines of varying styles and characteristics.
Currency Creek is situated only four-kilometres from the Southern Ocean on the eastern side of the Mount Lofty Ranges, and is adjacent to Lake Alexandrina. This cool, maritime climate promotes a mild growing season with a prolonged ripening period, resulting in fruit with distinctly lifted varietal definition and elegant complexity.
Shaw Family Vintners produces outstanding wines under several different labels, including the flagship Icon range, which honours founding directors Richard and Marie. The single vineyard wines tell light-hearted and amusing family stories and are named accordingly.
Shaw Family Vintners, the family’s first established wine range, acknowledges buildings on the estate of Goolwa. These wines have names and stories that feature a nautical flavour, drawn from the link with the stones that were used in the early sailing ships from England. Stonemason, an exclusive Currency Creek range, is named in recognition of those who worked with these stones.
