Peter Lehmann Wines

Peter Lehmann Wines

Peter Lehmann’s reputation is legendary throughout the Barossa Valley region and Australian winemaking history, and today Peter Lehmann Wines is one of the most established familyowned wineries in the region. Peter Lehmann started the winery in 1979 and the wine from the first vintage in 1980 was called ‘The Futures’. Led by Peter, the Barossa community pulled together during tough times, not just to make great wine but to preserve the future of the land and the Barossa region.

Built in the 1880’s Peter Lehmann Wines’ Hoffmann Cellar is one of the original Barossan wineries. Carved into the hill to allow the natural course of gravity to influence the winemaking process, the beautiful winery still stands with its beautiful grand archway entrance. Today, longstanding relationships with the same historic community of growers gives the Peter Lehmann Wines winemakers access to the very best grapes across the region, from which they create a range of varietals from Rosé to Riesling that suits any palate.

Peter Lehmann Wines has been named a five-star winery by Halliday, alongside several wines being awarded Top Gold or Gold at the 2023 Barossa Wine Show, including the 2017 Margaret Semillon and H&V Cabernet Sauvignon. At Mundus Vini 2023, the team received a Grand Gold for the 2021 Portrait Shiraz and four other Golds for some of their other signature wines.

Peter Lehmann Wines’ Barossa Valley cellar door is situated along Para Road on the banks of the Para River. In the heart of it all, the stunning red gum bar stands proudly and has been the centrepiece for tasting some of Australia’s most awarded Barossa Valley wines for many years. It continues to welcome visitors from all over the world to enjoy a tasting and create memorable moments.

The restaurant at the cellar door sources as much produce as it can from local Barossa suppliers, and where this is not possible, it is important to the Peter Lehman Wines team to source from South Australia. The food offering has been carefully selected for sharing and can be enjoyed all across the winery grounds. While the old stone building and veranda are a lovely setting to enjoy a glass of wine or two, it’s the surrounding lawns and gardens that make the Peter Lehmann winery special. On a sunny summer’s day, the picnic tables scattered under the swaying red gum trees are the perfect place to relax, share a bottle of wine and an ever-popular Weighbridge Platter with friends and loved ones.

Tasting Notes

Cheers To You Sparkling Shiraz Cabernet
⇐ 2021 Hill & Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Dark in colour with a bright crimson edge. Aromas of red currents and mentol, blackcurrant and menthol. Cassis and liquorice dominate the palate. The plush mid-palate is followed by mouth-filling tannins, providing great length whilst carrying the blue fruits and subtle cigar box notes. Ready to drink now however will continue to age gracefully over the next ten years.

Chaff Mill Cabernet Sauvignon
⇐ 2016 Masters Wigan Eden Valley Riesling

This wine has a delicate green tinge, with freshly picked limes on the nose. The palate shows great fruit purity with a refreshingly crisp, dry finish. Serve with pan-fried fish with crunchy potato chips. A match made in heaven, but don’t forget the lemon!

Klauber Block Shiraz
⇐ 2017 Stonewell Shiraz

Deep black core with crimson hue. Aromas of mocha, vanillin, lifted spice, chocolate and wet earth. The palate is rich with fine, pure tannins – an abundance of blueberry, violet, earth and clove. Long and bluefruited, really demonstrating a cool vintage in the Barossa whilst still retaining stereotypical fruit-ripeness and intensity. The oak is seamlessly integrated, almost imperceptible.

Dedication Shiraz
⇐ 2022 Portrait Grenache Rosć

Very pale salmon in colour. Aromas of restrained peach tea and strawberry combined with lifted florals and savoury spice. Bright fresh red berry fruits, soft textural midpalate and crisp, grapefruit freshening finish. Preferably enjoyed oceanside with some freshly caught salt and pepper squid on hand, but will also pair nicely with spicy dishes.
