Paulmara Estates

Nestled in the picturesque Barossa Valley are the gorgeous Paulmara Estates. Specialising in shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and alternative varieties such as sangiovese and nero d’avola, Paulmara Estates produce 2000 cases under fourteen labels annually. It is currently in the process of planting Cypriot and Greek varietals, opening the door for new and exciting wines in the near future.

Paulmara Estates was founded in 1999 by Paul and Mara. They have unique, alternative varieties that are estate grown on their charming properties, boasting lovely outdoor areas to enjoy the views and wines surrounding the cellar door. The multi award-winning winery took the Winestate magazine title of Wine of the Year for its 2018 Apotigi cabernet sauvignon. In the 2023 Barossa Wine Show, the winery took out the top gold for the 2020 cabernet sauvignon and in 2021 was awarded the Best 2020 Shiraz for the 2020 Marananga shiraz.

Paulmara Estates boast two vineyards in the heart of the Barossa Valley, in the sub region of Marananga which offers undulating hills ranging from 240-320 meters above sea level. This area is referred to as the ‘golden mile’ of the Barossa Valley and is renowned for being the region’s powerhouse, producing wines of iconic status.

The Georgiadis Estates vineyard consists of 13-hectares and was planted in 1995 and with the aim of producing premium wine grapes to service Penfold’s Icon wines. The vineyard sits 250-290 meters above sea level, protecting it from any severe frosts. The soils vary from red-brown loams over red clay with ironstone to red-brown loams over clay and limestone. Irrigation is only applied during the critical stages of phenology to ensure ideal physiological ripeness, and technology is used to measure the soil moisture at various levels to allow informed decisions to be made based on this scientific data.

The Paradigm Vineyard was purchased in 2011 and sits 280-320 meters above sea level. The 10-hectares hosts aged vines ranging from fifty to ninety years old which have been rejuvenated to produce some of the best cabernet and shiraz in the Barossa Valley. The soils are predominantly red-brown loams over red clay with shattered ironstone and quartz. The vineyard is predominantly non-irrigated, but strategic irrigations are applied in winter so that during the dry seasons there is a reserve moisture at depth.
