Maxwell Wines

Maxwell Wines

Maxwell Wines is an inherently unique destination, replete with an unbending dedication to maintaining the highest of standards, while also incorporating an essence of eccentricity and authenticity. Maxwell Wines specialises in red wines, and produces around twenty delectable styles of wine each year.

Maxwell Wines is not only committed to the art of winemaking, but also focuses on other fermentation processes, such as the creation of mead. Referred to by the Maxwell Wines team as ‘making wine from honey’, the Maxwell family showed an ongoing, cross-generational devotion to the ancient craft, and created what is now the benchmark for modern meadmaking. Today, Maxwell Mead is one of the most successful ranges of mead in the Southern Hemisphere.

Carved into a limestone hill at the heart of McLaren Vale, Maxwell Wines brings together a range of truly immersive visitor experiences, including the winery, meadery and restaurant. Maxwell Wines also offers a host of additional activities, with unique and exciting options suitable for the whole family.

Tasting Notes

⇐ Little Demon Grenache Rosé

Bearing a pale, salmon-toned hue, this fresh rosé is balanced with the taste of vibrant strawberries and cream. The palate is refreshing, with a lingering, plush mouthfeel.
The wine has an exceptional length, refreshing acidity, and a clean, dry finish.

⇐ Silver Hammer Shiraz

The palate of this shiraz has an abundance of generous flavours, and a rich mouthfeel with plum, vanilla, and hints of savoury spices. The mouth-flling flavours are well balanced and full-bodied, with a soft finish. The result is a generous and approachable wine with excellent depth of flavour, fine silky tannins
and lengthy fruit notes.

⇐ Lime Cave Cabernet Sauvignon

The Lime Cave Cabernet Sauvignon features a generous palate with red currant, cranberry and cherry, as well as hints of cedar oak. Flavours are persistent on the finish with soft and integrated tannins, while the dark purple colour reflects the heady aromas of blackberry and dark chocolate.

⇐ Fresca

Exclusively available at the cellar door, Fresca – a Spanish translation of the word ‘fresh’ – in honour of the grape’s heritage, this early drinking joven-style grenache has spent no time in barrel in order to preserve its fresh, youthful charm. At room temperature, or slightly chilled, it is the perfect partner to lunch. The wine is fresh and bright, with aspects of red grenache fruits, spices and some savoury notes.
