Kimbolton Wines
Kimbolton Wines
Located in the heart of the ancient natural floodplain that is Langhorne Creek, Kimbolton Wines is steeped in a wealth of history. The property originally formed part of the Potts Bleasdale estate, before it was acquired by Henry and Thelma Case in 1946. The property has since been passed down through the generations and is now owned by Henry and Thelma’s grandchildren, Nicole Clark and Brad Case, who took over the Kimbolton label first established by parents Leonard and Judy Case.
Kimbolton Wines is known for producing much loved traditional varieties while also pioneering a new range of Australian alternates in Langhorne Creek. The winery specialises in a range of Mediterranean varieties, including fiano, montepulciano and Spanish-origin carignan. Climatically, these alternate varieties are well suited to the growing conditions of Langhorne Creek while also benefitting from increasing popularity amongst consumers.
As the only grower of montepulciano in the region, Kimbolton Wines has significant notoriety. The Case family produces a range of wines from this versatile grape, including a delicious rosé, dry red and sparkling red.
Brad and Nicole opened the architecturally designed cellar door in December 2018, and it has been thriving ever since, with wine lovers stopping by for a tasting. Made from re-purposed industrial shipping containers and timber, this unique cellar door has a rooftop viewing platform, allowing visitors to enhance their experience while indulging in exquisite wines.
At the cellar door, you can choose from a range of wine tasting options, from seated tastings accompanied by regionally inspired seasonal platters, to the signature wine and cheese flight, where wines are carefully paired with local artisan cheeses. Kimbolton Wines even caters to the whole family, offering kids’ flights to keep young ones entertained.
Kimbolton Wines is proud to be a part of the Grapes for Good Trail, sponsoring endangered animals found at Monarto Safari Park, with part proceeds made from all 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2021 Fiano sales. As well as contributing to this great cause, Kimbolton Wines has many awards under its belt, including most recently placing Silver at the 2021 South Australia Tourism Awards in the ‘Tourism Wineries, Distilleries & Breweries’ category.
Tasting Notes
⇐ 2021 Fiano
Bright and fresh, this wine has an added complexity from yeast lees stirring. Vibrant, crisp citrus characters are displayed on the palate, with delicious fresh pear, a hint of honey and a rich texture.
⇐ 2021 Montepulciano Rosé
Made to emulate some of the world’s most famous rosés, this vibrant wine exudes a gorgeous rose-pink colour, with lovely aromas of rose water, strawberries and cream. The palate is fresh, crisp and dry with flinty minerality and a spicy aromatic lift.
⇐ 2021 Montepulciano
This montepulciano is medium-bodied and fruit-forward, made in the traditional Italian style. With red fruits, hints of spice and vanilla with subtle violet aromas, this wine is especially delicious when paired with antipasto, pizza and fresh pasta.
⇐ 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon
Displaying delicious red fruit and mulberries on the nose with just a hint of mint, this cabernet sauvignon has ripe blackberries on the palate. A splash of vanillin oak tannins leads to a gently grippy finish. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon was award 90 points in the 2022 Halliday Wine Companion.
