Kilikanoon Wines
Kilikanoon Wines
Enriching the rolling landscape of the Clare Valley, the Kilikanoon cellar door provides a fulfilling experience for all. This delightful winery has spent decades delving deep into the ecosphere of the valley, cultivating deep roots and a rich history that is replete through the decadent flavours and personality of its wine.
Founding the company in 1997, Kevin Mitchell brought with him not only a rich legacy of wine grape growers but also a fascination for terroir, the philosophy of balancing an environment’s unique variables – from soil to climate, – and factoring how each element works together to give the variety of grapes their unique flavour.
Joined by his father, Mort Mitchell, the pair planted and brought the now award-winning vineyards to fruition. Spread across hectares of the Clare Valley’s diverse landscape, Kilikanoon Wines’ vineyard locations have been carefully selected to ensure each wine variety and flavour can truly sing.
Through the masterful composition and care of the Kilikanoon Wines’ team, the winery produces twenty-two unique wines per year across many varieties and styles. With the valley’s microclimates particularly favouring riesling, shiraz, cabernet and grenache, there is a flavour to enrich the soul of any wine lover.
Named a 5-red star winery since 2008, Kilikanoon Wines has been bestowed with more than 800 medals since its inception. The winery has also been awarded the Best Australian Producer at Mundus Vini on eight occasions since 2010.
With two wine clubs tailored to discovering the winery on a deeper level, Kilikanoon Wines ensures that all visitors will walk away with a true experience of the Clare Valley, and how its unique environment functions – from from grape to glass
Tasting Notes

⇐ Kilikanoon Oracle Shiraz
Named the World’s Best Shiraz at the Best Wine of the World Competition the fruit for this wine is chosen for its concentration of flavours, and then aged for eighteen months in a careful selection of new and seasoned French oak casks. With notes of rich forest berries, dark chocolate and sweet spice, this mouth-filling shiraz has fine tannins and long, velvety finish.

⇐ Kilikanoon Tregea Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Named for the original owner of the Kilikanoon property, John Tregea, this single vineyard handpicked wine is placed into open fermenters and then basket pressed into French oak barrels. Balancing traditional and modern winemaking techniques, this wine shows flavours of dark cherries, blackcurrant, and blueberry.

⇐ Kilikanoon Prodigal Grenache
One of the winery’s first varieties, the Prodigal Grenache continues to set the standard for Clare Valley old vine Grenache. The fruit is basked pressed into seasoned French hogsheads and then matured for fifteen months. With a palate of ripe cherries, dark chocolate, kitchen spices and notes of marzipan this wine balances a fresh yet concentrated flavour.

⇐ Kilikanoon Mort’s Block Watervale Riesling
The fruit for this wine is predominantly harvested from the famed Mort’s Block vineyard, with the remainder sourced from the Morrison vineyard on the opposite hillside to bring a depth and complexity to the wine. With classic Watervale notes of fresh citrus, lime and jasmine, this wine is long, generous, and mouth-watering.
