Kellermeister Barossa Valley
Kellermeister Barossa Valley
Kellermeister Barossa Valley was founded by Ralph and Val Jones in 1976, and was one of the first boutique cellar door and wineries to open in the Barossa Valley. In 2009, Mark Pearce joined the winery and in 2012, the Pearce family purchased the winery and have since worked hard to build on its thirty-five-year legacy. The Pearce family’s main goal is to handcraft wines that express the purity and provenance of the Barossa.
Producing around a dozen quality wines per year, Kellermeister Barossa Valley owns thirty acres of estate shiraz, mataro and grenache vines. The winery s renowned for its stunning views from its mud-brick cellar door, which stands as a rustic reminder of the burning-red ironstone soil that makes the Barossa a unique and superb winegrowing region.
The award-winning winery has received an array of international accolades in recent years, including trophies for 2019 Wine of the Year, Best Australian Wine, Best Shiraz Wine and Best Quality Wine at the 2019 London Wine Competition.
Recently awarded the Barossa Trust Mark seal of quality for its wine and cellar door experience, and with plenty of lawn area that’s ideal for picnicking or kicking around a football, Kellermeister Barossa Valley is the perfect place to taste excellent wine, cider and fresh local produce platters, offering a truly authentic Barossan experience. When planning your visit, check to see if the famous Friday night pig-on-the-spit dinner is being held, as it was awarded the title of Best Wine Event by the global beer, wine and spirits magazine, Drinks International.
Tasting Notes
⇐ 2016 The Meister Eden Valley Shiraz
Kellermeister’s flagship shiraz sources shiraz grapes exclusively from an Eden Valley vineyard planted in 1906. Matured in new French oak barrels for two years, this wine displays elegance and finesse, along with deep-born fruit intensity and persistent length. With an exceptional rating, the shiraz scored 99 points in the 2020 Halliday Wine Companion.
⇐ 2015 Wild Witch Shiraz
Showcasing the best shiraz fruit from the Barossa and Eden Valley in each vintage, this wine is exceptional. The intrinsic power, dimension and surprising elegance brings even the most indulgent connoisseur under its long, intense and luxurious spell. Elegant blue fruits, blackcurrant, truffles and fine silky tannins. Named Wine of the Year at the 2019 London Wine Competition.
⇐ 2016 Black Sash Shiraz
This evocative wine has been handcrafted with the use of traditional methods from the fruit of old vines. Delivering a rich, opulent palate, and a fleshy core of dark fruit sweetness. Also featuring hints of deep black fruits, chocolate and spice, the wine finishes with superb length. The exceptional wine received 98 points in the 2020 Halliday Wine Companion.
⇐ 2016 Pious Pioneer Dry Grown Shiraz
Dry-grown shiraz grapes were handpicked from vines watered solely by natural rainfall, which has resulted in smaller grapes with a more intense colour and flavour. As a result, this shiraz has a generous flavour and rich texture with opulent and juicy blood plums.
