Greenock Creek Wineries
Greenock Creek Wineries
Established in 1984, Greenock Creek Wines was founded by local bricklayer turned wine enthusiast Michael Waugh and his wife Annabelle. The winery initially produced two wines, but within a few short years, Waugh’s passion and love for winemaking became a huge success, with the company’s wines selling out within a matter of weeks.
Following its successful reception within Australia, Greenock Creek Wines has taken the international market by storm, and has received 100 points in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate on multiple occasions, dating back to 1995.
Renowned for its traditional, bold red wines, Greenock Creek Wines also provides customers with a wonderful tasting experience from its Marananga cellar door. Visitors can expect to enjoy their favourite drop while surrounded by an abundance of space and a rustic country setting. The team at Greenock Creek Wines believes in honesty, hard work, laughter, family and friends; these ideals are reflected in each and every Greenock Creek Wines creation.
Producing approximately seventy tonnes of wine each year, Greenock Creek Wines has more than twenty-one hectares of dry-grown vines, and prides itself on maintaining a genuine approach to viticulture. Each patch of grape vines is kept separate and processed at the winery. Specialising in shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, mataro and grenache, as well as site-specific offerings, such as the Apricot Block Shiraz, Greenock Creek Wines continues to craft a wide array of varietals to suit all tastes.
A multi-award-winning company, Greenock Creek Wines continues to provide great quality wine and is rated highly by the likes of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. The winery has also been recognised with a number of gold medals at the China Wine and Spirits Awards. Greenock Creek Wines has also been placed in the Outstanding category of the Langton’s Classification three times for its Roennfeldt Road Shiraz. These accolades reflect Greenock Creek Wines’ mission of creating unique wines that offer a truly unforgettable experience.
Tasting Notes
⇐ Roennfeldt Road Cabernet Sauvignon
This single-estate vineyard cabernet sauvignon is harvested from a Greenock Creek Wines vineyard at Marananga, which is approximately 120-years-old. The elegant wine displays an exquisite mix of fresh berry fruits, stewed prunes, dark chocolate and cigar-box flavours.
⇐ Roennfeldt Road Shiraz
The ‘Roennfeldt Road’ name is given to Greenock Creek Wines’ flagship wines. This shiraz showcases a palate with layers of ripe forest berries, hints of star anise, white pepper, and charred toffee oak. Milk chocolate density is balanced with vanilla sweetness from the oak maturation. The tannins are silky and elegant, framing the fruit and providing drive and length through the palate.
⇐ Apricot Block Shiraz
The fruit used for this shiraz was harvested from a block that was planted on the site of an old apricot orchard; this provides a noticeable stone fruit element to the wine. The palate is rich and silky with morello cherries and ripe raspberries melding with hints of sweet nutmeg spice. Dark, bitter chocolate fills out the structure, and complements the rounded tannins and apricot kernel at the finish.
⇐ Cabernet Sauvignon
Within this cabernet sauvignon, varietal aspects of cassis, spearmint, and green tea leaves shine, with forest berry fruits also appearing prominently. The dusty tannin profile gives an edge to the palate, and melds seamlessly with blackberries and a hint of lemon myrtle to liven he finish.
