Gibson Wines

Gibson Wines was established in 1996 and draws on over fifty years of experience from its founder – viticulturist, geologist and winemaker, Rob Gibson. Rob, with wife Anne and son Adam, uphold a ‘wine growing’ philosophy. A belief rooted in an understanding of the relationship between vineyards, their cycle of growth and maximising flavour in resultant wines.

Surrounding the 1840’s blacksmith’s cottage, Gibson Wines’ home property in Light Pass features a 7-acre patch of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and fiano. The family also tends to a small old vine vineyard in the Eden Valley.

Alongside estate vineyards, relationships forged over decades with Barossa Valley grape growing families, providing Gibson Wines with access to some of the region’s most precious fruit. Gibson Wines’ grower relationships are key, not only in providing a multitude of complexity in the end wines, but as a means of supporting a sustainable wine growing community.

At Gibson Wines, fermentation is done in two tonne open vessels and traditional hand techniques are employed in all manners of winemaking, including hand-plunging and basket-pressing which all contribute to a definitive style. A profound simplicity exists in viewing Gibson Wines and its Barossa home as a means of inspiring comfort and connection through wine.

The Gibson Wines cellar door is open seven days a week, from 11am-5pm. Tastings are offered in two formats: Classic ($10 redeemable on purchase) and Premium ($25 non-redeemable) which enables access to Gibson Wines’ premier shiraz releases. In addition to cellar door tastings, Gibson Wines offers visitors two immersive experiences that can be pre-booked ahead of your visit – Barossa Shiraz by Barrel and Day with The Dirtman.

Barossa Shiraz by Barrel is an opportunity to step into the world of small batch winemaking, where you will be guided through a tasting of individual parcels of shiraz, drawn straight from the barrel. Day with The Dirtman is an opportunity to join Rob Gibson (The Dirtman) and his family personally, for an expertly guided full-day immersion into the Barossa Valley. The experience, lunch inclusive, blends vineyard, soil and wine discovery with insights on how to live like a local.

Throughout the year, regular ‘Sunday Fun-days’ at Gibson Wines attract locals and visitors alike for an afternoon of live music, pop-up food producers and wines by the glass or bottle.
