Dudley Wines is a boutique, family-run vineyard, winery and cellar door that proudly produces an authentic Kangaroo Island product, passionately crafted by fifth-generation islander Brodie Howard. Dudley Wines’ vineyards are situated in a beautiful valley, within the Howards’ 4000-acre property, known by the locals as Porky Flat. Although it is a working beef cattle farm, the estate is still approximately thirty percent untouched native bushland.
Kangaroo Island’s maritime conditions of fresh evening sea breezes throughout the ripening season, result in grapes with concentrated and clearly defined varietal ﬂavour components.
Dudley Wines’ picturesque, award-winning cellar door (just twelve kilometres from the ferry terminal in Penneshaw) is perched atop the stunning north coast of Kangaroo Island, and features breathtaking views overlooking the Backstairs Passage and mainland Australia.
Visitors to the cellar door can relax while enjoying one of the wine tasting experiences on offer as they sample island-inspired dishes from the small seasonal menu. There is also local produce and artwork, as well as an exquisite range of wool and natural-fibre clothing for sale. For the young, and young at heart, there is a nature playground and ‘golf across the gully’.
The cellar door features an event space, which provides the perfect backdrop for your island wedding. There is a large lawn area and deck, as well as a modern, adaptable function room that can comfortably seat 150 guests. Pale straw in colour and bursting with beautiful fine bubbles, this sparkling sauvignon blanc and chardonnay blend has aromas full of fresh grapefruit and hints of mouth-watering sweet
honeysuckle. The palate displays an attractive vibrancy, crisp green apples and sweet citrus notes. It is a well-balanced wine with a refreshingly bright finish.
⇐ 2018 Cape Hart Riesling
This riesling exhibits aromatics of cherry blossom and hints of spiced pear and citrus. It has a fine pure palate of ﬂavours with a light, balanced acidity, and a pleasant natural fruitiness that finishes fresh and vibrant on the palate.
⇐ 2016 Hog Bay Cabernet Sauvignon
A big, bold wine, deep in colour and ﬂavour, the nose has hints of mint and eucalypt. The palate is full-bodied with a delightful earthiness, mixed berry fruit and perfumed undertones. This is a wine with great potential to age if you can resist the desire to drink it now!
⇐ 2013 The Stud Shiraz
Dark reddish-purple in colour, the aromatics from this wine exhibit sweet black fruits and plum pudding spices. The palate shows layers of rich, ripe primary fruits entwined with savoury elements of tapenade and cola supported beautifully by a sweet balanced integration of oak. It will continue to improve with up to twenty years careful cellaring.
