Cirami Estate

Cirami Estate is a winemaking initiative of the Riverland Vine Improvement Committee Inc (RVIC), a not-for-profit organisation and one of the largest producers of vine propagation material in Australia. RVIC is committed to ensuring diversity within the Australian wine industry, and continually trials imported alternative varieties for their potential introduction into Australia. Cirami Estate has proudly provided unconventional wines to the public since 2011.

Named after vine research pioneer, Richard Cirami, Cirami Estate was created to showcase the potential of alternative varieties grown in the warm inland region of the Riverland. Cirami Estate produces small batches of wine from fruit that is grown exclusively on-site, and made purely from single alternative varieties.

Cirami Estate wines are produced by winemaker, Eric Semmler, who was named 2013 Winestate Australian Winemaker of the Year.

Cirami Estate is renowned for the new and unusual varieties it has produced, and it strives to produce a unique wine every year.

In 2018, Cirami Estate produced a small trial batch of alfrocheiro, a dark-skinned red variety imported from Portugal; the variety is noted for its intense fruit aromas and high-quality potential. This year, Cirami Estate has produced a small make of arinto, another import from Portugal celebrated for its high acidity, drought tolerance and adaptability in winemaking opportunities.

In 2018, the Cirami Estate 2015 Saperavi was awarded the ‘Golden Azarpesha’ in the Saperavi World Prize held in Tbilisi, Georgia; the team at Cirami Estate was extremely proud to receive such a significant accolade. Saperavi has remained an incredibly popular variety for Cirami Estate, made in four of the last five vintages.

Over the past few years, Cirami Estate’s selection of wine has grown in popularity, and the company is quickly becoming one to watch. Keep an eye on Cirami Estate – you never know what might be coming up.
