Bremerton Wines
Bremerton Wines
Founded in 1988 by Craig and Mignonne Willson, Bremerton Wines is now run by their two daughters, Rebecca and Lucy, who have become the first sisters to run a winery in Australia. The pair have created an environment that not only produces the very best wine experience, but also a sense of place that reflects the family’s ongoing commitment to the Langhorne Creek region.
Under Rebecca and Lucy’s direction, Bremerton Wines has become one of the best-known brands from this region. The sisters are passionate about working with Langhorne Creek fruit, which has an excellent reputation for consistently producing high-quality wines, including both classic and alternative varieties such as sauvignon blanc, verdelho, chardonnay, shiraz, malbec and grenache. Vegan and preservative-free wines are also produced to cater to every welcome guest who walks through Bremerton’s doors.
As a family business, Bremerton Wines’ ethos is to pass on the property in an improved environmental position for the next generation of winemakers and vignerons.
For the last sixteen years running, Bremerton Wines has been awarded a 5-red star rating in the James Halliday Wine Companion. With its new cellar door experience – a bright and beautiful extension to the restored 1866 stone barn – this charming winery offers visitors a chance to try its award-winning and highly rated wines; you can even choose a seated wine flight option and taste four wines accompanied by a regional tasting plate.
There’s plenty to do on a visit to Bremerton Wines, with lush lawned areas perfect for picnics, alfresco dining where you indulge in a regionally-inspired lunch, gin flights, art exhibitions on the mezzanine level and David Dridan’s famous ‘Barrel Ends’ collection in the dining area.
The Willson sisters love what they do, and this shows in the wines they produce; rich in character, to be enjoyed with good food, conversation and fun with friends. At Bremerton Wines you’ll experience the real, authentic Langhorne Creek – in the vineyard, in the winery and at the cellar door.
Tasting Notes
⇐ 2016 Walter’s Cabernet Sauvignon
A powerful yet elegant wine, this cabernet sauvignon displays beautiful notes of blackberry, bramble and earth, complemented by subtle chocolate and savoury nuances. An elegant tannin structure supports the wine, which shows spice and complexity produced by French Oak.
⇐ 2019 Tamblyn Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz Malbec Merlot
Named after the Willson’s ancestors who migrated to Australia from Cornwall, England, the Tamblyn is a seamless blend of four classic varietals. Impressively, this wine manages to express the individual characteristics of each of these varietals.
⇐ 2020 Special Release Malbec
Langhorne Creek has a long history with malbec thanks to its well-suited climate. The Special Release Malbec has an intense perfumed aroma of violets and spice with a bramble lift, with a rich and fleshy palate and fine tannins.
⇐ 2021 Mollie & Merle Verdelho
In honour of the Willson’s grandmothers, Mollie and Merle, this superb verdelho is made from free run juice, resulting in a fresh and vibrant wine with lifted perfumed citrus aromas and a bright and textural palate, along with fine acid balance and great length of flavour.
