Angas Plains Wines
Angas Plains Wines
Established in 1994 by Phillip and Judy Cross, Angas Plains Wines is a James Halliday rated 5-star winery set in the heart of the Langhorne Creek wine region. In 1993, Phillip carefully selected vine material that he used to develop his own vineyard nursery, and this was the beginning of Angas Plains Estate. The following year the first cabernet sauvignon was planted. Together, Phillip and Judy continued to develop a new block of vines each year, finishing with chardonnay in 2002.
Just forty-five minutes away from Adelaide and ten minutes from the historical town of Strathalbyn, this lovely winery specialises in dry red and sparkling wines. Immersed in local family history, Angas Plains Wines offers you the chance to relax in an authentic winery setting, with breathtaking views overlooking the vineyards and beyond to the Adelaide Hills.
Nestled in a quiet country setting, to offer complete tranquillity, Angas Plains Wines also has a grassy area for children to play, so you can feel comfortable bringing the entire family.
The Angas Plains Wines restaurant serves rustic food made from only the freshest local produce, and some of the winery’s own products.
Believing that great wines are born out of great vineyards, this approach has seen the winery receive recognition with numerous awards. Visitors passing through Langhorne Creek can stop by the gorgeous cellar door, where live music and fun events often take place, to try these awardwinning wines.
Constantly yielding wines of the highest quality, it’s no wonder this winery has been award a 5-star rating by James Halliday eight years in a row. Angas Plains Estate wines are produced from its single vineyard; visitors are able to feel the authenticity of the wines straight from the glass. If you can’t make the trip, head to the online store, where wines can be purchased and delivered to your door.
Tasting Notes
⇐ Angas Plains Estate PJs Shiraz
Those brave enough to explore this intensely deep-purple shiraz will discover dark-plum and gentle licorice undertones beneath the bold surface. Aged in French and American oak barrels for 14 months, this shiraz can be enjoyed over the next five to 15 years.
⇐ NV Angas Plains Estate PJs Sparkling Chardonnay
This fresh and fruity sparkling chardonnay has a good balance of flavour and acidity that offers a brut-style finish. The palate has light, crisp and fruity flavours that dance around on the tongue, and the fine, delicate bubbles make for a delightful and easy-to-drink sparkling wine.
⇐ Angas Plains Estate Special Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
This special reserve wine is only produced when there is an exceptional parcel of grapes. The intensity of the fruit and varietal characteristics of the Langhorne Creek soft-tannin cabernets are integrated with fine oak to develop this wine.
⇐ Angas Plains Estate PJs Cabernet Sauvignon
This nicely articulated cabernet exhibits a bright, deep colour and exudes rich and pleasant fruit aromas. The palate is assuaged by blackcurrants that have been aged in French oak barrels for sixteen months. This provides hints of black olive and cedar characteristics that add to the enjoyment of this medium-bodied wine.
