Paulmara Estates
Paulmara Estates
Paulmara Estates is built on three pillars: heritage, connection and passion. Surrounded by breathtaking views of Marananga, the estate invites you to experience the best of the iconic Barossa Valley region. The estate was established in 1999 by Paul and Mara Georgiadis, when the pair was inspired by the idea of creating a curated selection of wines that capture a moment in time, tell a story and remain a unique expression of the land.
Both Paul and Mara Georgiadis grew up in agricultural families, surrounded by vineyards and viticulture, where their shared passion for exceptional wine first took root. Their first estate-grown wine, Syna—meaning together in Greek—symbolises the union of the couple and their shared love of viticulture.
Crafting up to a dozen wine varieties each year, Paulmara Estates focuses on flavour, authenticity and feel when crafting each wine. With twenty-four hectares under vine, Paulmara Estates is comprised of two vineyards: Georgiadis Estates Vineyard and Paradigm Vineyard. The two vineyards each offer diverse soils with red clay, ironstone and quartz.
Paul and Mara Georgiadis know that great wine is best enjoyed with a story. To reflect this, the boutique cellar door at Paulmara Estate invites locals and visitors alike to discover the unique selection of wines. Every tasting is comfortable, personalised and deeply connects to the history behind the vines. With an array of events hosted at the estate that celebrate family, connection and culture, each experience is filled with laughter, music and a curated selection of wine.
The family took inspiration from their own culture, upbringing and life to craft the selection of wines available at the estate today. The wine varieties consist of estate-grown wines including the region’s iconic Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, along with Mediterranean varieties including Sangiovese, Nero d’Avola, Xinomavro and Australia’s first commercial Xynisteri.
Paulmara Estate has earnt acclaim across the country for its unique selection of wines, from The Real Review Top Wineries of Australia, Young Gun of Wine to Winestate Magazine’s Wine of the Year. Paulmara has received Gold Medals and Best Wine trophies at the Barossa Wine Show, Melbourne International Wine Competition and Australian & New Zealand Boutique Wine Show.
Tasting Notes
⇐ 2021 Syna Shiraz
The first wine ever released under the Paulmara label, Syna takes its name from the Greek word meaning “the coming together of two like minds and hearts.” It is the foundation of the estates story. Lifted aromas of dark plum, blackberry and warm baking spice lead into a beautifully structured palate layered with rich black fruits, subtle savoury notes and velvety tannins. Powerful yet elegant, Syna is a timeless expression of Barossa Shiraz.
⇐ 2025 DeNero Nero D’Avola
A Sicilian classic that has found an extraordinary home in Marananga, DeNero reflects the estates belief that Mediterranean varieties have an exciting future in Australia. Bright red cherry, wild raspberry and subtle spice combine with silky tannins and vibrant acidity to create a wine of generosity, freshness and effortless drinkability.
⇐ 2025 Xx Xinomavro
One of Greece’s most revered grape varieties, Xinomavro connects Paulmara to its Greek roots while showcasing the remarkable potential of this ancient variety in Australian soils. Perfumed aromas of rose petals, sour cherry and dried herbs open onto a finely structured palate with bright acidity, savoury complexity and a long, elegant finish.
⇐ 2025 Ilios Xynisteri
Australia’s first commercial Xynisteri, Ilios represents Paulmara’s commitment to exploring varieties that honour its heritage while embracing the future of Australian viticulture. Fresh citrus blossom, white peach and hints of Mediterranean herbs lead to a vibrant palate with crisp natural acidity, delicate texture and a refreshing mineral finish.
