1847 Wines Chateau Yaldara
The ever-so picturesque 1847 Winery Chateau Yaldara is one of the oldest boutique wineries in the Barossa Valley and the most photographed cellar door in the region. Known for its beautiful architecture and surrounding gardens, the scenery alone makes this a must-see destination for many visitors. Supplementing the gorgeous surrounds, its rich history, handcrafted wines and renowned fortified collection ensures visitors will want to extend their stay.
Steeped in history, the winery was founded in 1947 by Hermann Thumm, a German immigrant who was raised in a family of vintners and was immensely passionate about wine. The venue was purchased in 2014 by 1847 Wines, and today, the unique building has many private tasting rooms where you can soak in the majestic atmosphere.
The winery has won many awards over the years for its spectacular wines, with one of its most celebrated being the ‘Best Fortified in the World Award’, which its 40-Year-Old Tawny received at the 2019 Chinese Wine and Spirit Awards.
Truly an immersive experience, the winery offers many activities for visitors to revel in from the outset – including captivating wine tours and tastings, fortified wines and chocolate pairings, outdoor tastings amongst the beautiful gardens, cheese platters and lunch.
1847 Winery Chateau Yaldara is a 5-red star rated winery in the 2021 Halliday Wine Companion. The winery has approximately 80-hectares, the perfect environment to help nurture and produce its delectable, award-winning wines.
Nestled on the banks of the North Para River, Hermann’s restaurant at 1847 Winery Chateau Yaldara is immersed in the beautiful Barossa Valley countryside. Enjoy a selection of the finest local produce, or savour a divine glass of wine while enjoying the delectable flavours of traditional and seasonal contemporary dishes.
⇐ 2016 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Dark and brooding, this wine is an impenetrable black with a bright cherry red colour visible at the wine’s edge. A true and classic Barossa Valley cabernet sauvignon, this wine displays characters of dark, sweet fruit and bitter chocolate with both a balanced acidity and tannic grip.
⇐ 2016 Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir
Bright and effervescent, the delicate beads enhance the citrus and white peach notes, with hints of strawberry blossom and lemon zest. A beautifully balanced wine with a clean acid line that refreshes the palate and the senses. The perfect, light summer wine to enjoy.
⇐ 2020 Lily Ponds Grenache
A beautifully vibrant and youthful wine that is bursting with aromatic summer fruits. Aromas of cherry, raspberry and strawberry sing from the glass. The wine’s palate is supported by these rich flavours and is balanced by notes of cinnamon and white pepper.
⇐ 40 Year Old Tawny
A culmination of forty years, this tawny is the result of Chateau Yaldara’s long history producing fortified wines. Utilising well-seasoned maturation
barrels, the tawny embodies intensified grape flavours and has created an intensely viscous silky mouthfeel with notes of dried stone fruits, spiced caramel and roasted almonds.
